Membership fees

Despite the name, the club participates in all disciplines of running, fell, cross country and road and welcomes applications from runners of all abilities to join us. If you are not sure if the club is for you, why not come to one of our training sessions or one of our regular pub runs. You will be under no obligation to join, but you will get a feel for the club and a better idea if the club is for you. You can merely turn up to a training session unannounced, but it would be better if you contacted our club secretary first (details on the contacts page) and let him know that you will be coming and he will make sure that whoever is leading the group will look out for you. If you are an absolute beginner to running, you too are most welcome to join us in one of our sessions, but please contact our secretary first and he will make sure that you will have a programme with which you are comfortable. This is a seven and a half mile race over road, bridleway and footpaths with deceptive undulation and offering some fine view over Calderdale & Kirklees. Craig Shearer took part in what became a two horse race, with Craig being pipped at the post by Dom Carter of York Postal Harriers, but a good performance from Craig nevertheless.

John Boothman completed his second marathon in a week and Raymond Banks put in a great performance in the V70-74 category.

This is John's account of his day.

It was very cold pre race but thankfully dry.  The cool temperature was a bonus once we got running. The pace was perfect and I was really enjoying the support along the route. As I rounded the corner to go over Tower Bridge, the crowd was massive and very loud.  Right in the middle of the bridge, with no warning, I felt a painful twang in my right calf and was immediately in pain and limping badly. I stopped and took some pain killers and applied some ibuprofen gel then set off at a very steady hop. The pain subsided once the meds took effect but I limped the rest of the way to the finish. Another amazing experience and great to have family support along the route although I think they worked harder than me battling the crowds. Then straight back to change and off to see ABBA Vantage which was amazing, then out for a meal. A full on day with family and friends.  What could be better?
