This was John Boothman's eighth running of this race. This year, the conditions were almost perfect, but that is not to take away anything of the challenge which faces all competitors. This race is like two back to back marathons and then some. John set off at a steady, but brisk pace which he maintained throughout the race. John always complains before any of his long races that he has not done enough training and he is probably right as he is a very busy man. It was the same complaint this year, but during the race, he looked good and very determined. The result was that he had his best time for a few years.
