Membership fees

Despite the name, the club participates in all disciplines of running, fell, cross country and road and welcomes applications from runners of all abilities to join us. If you are not sure if the club is for you, why not come to one of our training sessions or one of our regular pub runs. You will be under no obligation to join, but you will get a feel for the club and a better idea if the club is for you. You can merely turn up to a training session unannounced, but it would be better if you contacted our club secretary first (details on the contacts page) and let him know that you will be coming and he will make sure that whoever is leading the group will look out for you. If you are an absolute beginner to running, you too are most welcome to join us in one of our sessions, but please contact our secretary first and he will make sure that you will have a programme with which you are comfortable. It was nice to see a good turn out from Barlick at this race, including several of our lady members.  Andrew Driver led the Barlickers home and he worked his way through the field to finish in 5th position.  It was good to see some of our newer members take on this race such as Pete Beresford and James Stead and it was also nice to see Barry Rawlinson back out on the fells, running as a Barlicker.

The ladies race was won by the redoubtable Gill Myers and in her wake there were some of our lady members, many of whom, this time last year, would never have dreamed that they would now be competing in a fell race.  The finishing times for all Barlickers were:

5 Andrew Driver 42:19
22 Richard Lowther 46:10
29 John Boothman 48:04
31 Glenn Whittaker 48:57
35 Dave Halliday 49:23
37 Pete Beresford 50:05
46 Rachel Lowther (3rd lady)
52 Barry Rawlinson 53:58
53 Jean Rawlinson 54:28
54 Jennifer Hird 54:29
61 Lucy Beresford 57:02
63 Leanne Dinsdale 58:10
68 James Stead 1:02:46

After the distractions of last weekend, it is nice to get back to fell racing. The talented  U23 Jamie Parkinson of Pudsey & Bramley showed the field the way home, winning the race in 18:45.  Barlick had four finishers in the top twenty, a feat only surpassed by the mighty Calder Valley.  The Barlickers finished as follows:

5 Jimmy Craig 19:55
7 Nick Treitl 20:32
17 Andy Berry 22:50
20 Andy Driver 23:05
32 James Tingle 24:10

This race was first run in 1981.  Peter Jebb designed the course and for the first twenty years, he organised it.  He gave up doing so because he had other commitments in June and his friend Alan Greenwood of Calder Valley, himself a regular race organiser, took it on for a further five years.  He then passed it on to the present race organiser Graham Wadsworth and a result, this classic fell race joined the portfolio of races organised by Barlick Fell Runners.

This year, both Pete Jebb and Alan Greenwood were having a day out and they went out of their way to stop off at the race.  It was nice to see them both there.  Alan took a short video of the race which he has now put on You Tube.

A brilliant run by Rachel Lowther saw her finish second lady and only a couple of seconds off coming first.  Lucy Beresford also had a good run finishing 4th lady.

54 Rachel Lowther 52:17 (2nd lady)
64 Lucy Beresford 57:17 (4th lady)

Young Harley Treitl and his dad Nick were out in this race.  Positions and results follow as soon as they are available from Wharfedale Harriers.

A couple of Barlickers were at this race:

64 Lee Edwards 38:43
88 Jean Rawinson 42:13

112 finishers.

There would have been a third Barlicker there, but John Boothman was late getting away from work and did not make it on time.  He therefore had to make do with a training run on part of the Calderdale Way.;

Good run from Chris Smedley overlooked from last weekend:

3 Chris SMEDLEY 21:07

There was a good turnout for this race with 103 finishers, including 9 Barlickers.  The race winner was Mark McGoldrick in 55:46 who had an easy win over 2nd place V50 Neil Holding who finished in 60:01.  Andrew Driver led the Barlickers home.

11 Andrew Driver 63:18
26 John Boothman 68:26
30 Glenn Whittaker 69:45

47 Pete Beresford 74:31

There was a great turnout from Barlick for this event and the club fielded eight teams, including three ladies' teams.  The official results are out and can be viewed from the links below.  The club did extremely well - how well depends on how you interpret the results.  The first team home was One man from Belmonti.  However, it was made up of runners from different clubs.  Because of that the first team prize went to Horwich, whose team comprised of all Horwich members.   So, depending how you view things, our first team, Barlick Hares, was either second or third team.

The same applies to our second team, Barlick Hop Limp Run.  They were tenth team home, but there were two teams in front of them that were not all from one club, so they were either eighth or tenth, depending how you look at it.  So, take your pick.

However, not to be outdone by the men was the ladies' team.  Our first team, Barlick Ladies 'A' was 35th overall, but 3rd ladies team.  A terrific performance from our girls.

Further details will be posted shortly.

As a change from the normal pub run format, this was from the home of Dave & Louise Halliday and incorporated a barbecue and barrel of Bridgehouse Brewery Ale.  As a result, it attracted a wide range of support of going on 30 people, including wives and children.  Some people even went for a run.

At the end of the night, an empty barrel testified to the fact that a good evening was had by all.
