Membership fees

Despite the name, the club participates in all disciplines of running, fell, cross country and road and welcomes applications from runners of all abilities to join us. If you are not sure if the club is for you, why not come to one of our training sessions or one of our regular pub runs. You will be under no obligation to join, but you will get a feel for the club and a better idea if the club is for you. You can merely turn up to a training session unannounced, but it would be better if you contacted our club secretary first (details on the contacts page) and let him know that you will be coming and he will make sure that whoever is leading the group will look out for you. If you are an absolute beginner to running, you too are most welcome to join us in one of our sessions, but please contact our secretary first and he will make sure that you will have a programme with which you are comfortable. The Barlick 6 man team made the short trip to sport city in Manchester hoping to improve on last year's 11th place. Tom Corrigan was running on leg 1 and put in a cracking performance bringing the team home in 31st out of 110.  It was then Jimmy Craig on leg 2 and as always he put in his usual charge on leg 2 taking back 12 places and bringing the team up to 19th.  Leg 3 was the turn of Gary Shaw who took another 2 places and the team were on their usual charge and in 17th.  Leg 4 saw Matt Lalor take another 2 places and the boys were 15th.  It was turning out to be a big battle with Blackburn Harriers and it was up to Ian Livesey to hold off Blackburn's main man, Ben Fish.  Livers responded to the challenge and ran the fastest Barlick leg of the day. The team were now 13th and were in touching distance of a top 10 spot.  Luke Maude then ran hard, pulling two places back quickly, but Blackburn held on for 10th with the lads equalling last years 11th place. The standard of competition was however quite a bit higher this year. It was a cracking performance from the lads.   The Nationals now await them at Sutton in two weeks time.

The leg positions and leg times were:

31 Tom Corrigan  17.38
19 Jimmy Craig 17.31
17 Gary Shaw 17.49
15 Matt Lalor 17.44
13 Ian Livesey 17.15
11 Luke Maude 18.19

Although not running race, we had three entries for Barlick Fell Runners in this event and a couple of outstanding results.

David Poole finishing in 48th place 3.36.48 which was only 6.48 away from an elite time.
Lee Edwards making his debut 113th in 3.55.36
John Boothman 353rd in 4.43.09

Sam Gibbs also rode, but under the Hope team and he was 67th in 3.43.16

537 finishers & 31 retired which shows how tough it was. Whilst it is a cycle race, it compares more to a fell race on a bike - 38 miles & 5,000 foot of ascent.

7 Andrew Carson 37:55

Our girls seem to be showing the way at the moment.  First woman in this race was Lorraine Slater.  She is a tough cookie in any race, but definitely one to contend with on the fells.
