Membership fees

Despite the name, the club participates in all disciplines of running, fell, cross country and road and welcomes applications from runners of all abilities to join us. If you are not sure if the club is for you, why not come to one of our training sessions or one of our regular pub runs. You will be under no obligation to join, but you will get a feel for the club and a better idea if the club is for you. You can merely turn up to a training session unannounced, but it would be better if you contacted our club secretary first (details on the contacts page) and let him know that you will be coming and he will make sure that whoever is leading the group will look out for you. If you are an absolute beginner to running, you too are most welcome to join us in one of our sessions, but please contact our secretary first and he will make sure that you will have a programme with which you are comfortable. Red Rose XC Rossendale - 17 November 2018

Written by

It is tough at the front of a race.  Lucille Pickles won her race, but such was the competition that she only won it by one second.  On the other hand, Jack Villiers was beaten into second place by just one second.  Two great performances by two very talented (and hard working) young athletes.

With the main body of Barlickers going to the Red Rose Meeting at Leigh, we had only one runner out in these races - Lucille Pickles.  She put in a cracking run finishing 2nd out of a field of 39 .  She then intended going on to Wasdale to compete in the last BOFRA race at Wasdale, but the weather was so bad that it was impossible to get to Wasdale.

BOFRA, Wasdale - 13 October 2018

It was a tough racing for everyone.   The weather was so bad that the seniors ran the U17 route as the full route was deemed too dangerous. Jody Whitfield had a great run to come home 3rd U12 girl.  Lily-Grace Clayton was just behind, coming home as 6th U12 girl

Oscar Clayton, who usually runs in the U9 races, had to run in the U12 race , as is the case at most show races.  He gave a brave performance and came home 10th boy.

Red Rose XC League, Leigh - 13 October 2013

This a new competition for the club and 16 juniors made the trip to Leigh to take part.

First off were the U11 boys who were led home by Garth Duffy, who along with Michael Moya and George  Fitzpatrick brought  the team home in 7th place.

Next off were the U11 girls who Summer Fitzpatrick led home to 12th team place.

In the U5 boys race, it was nip and tuck between Louie Johnson of Bolton United Harriers and Jack Villiers.  As they crossed the bridge before enbarking on the long run down the track to the  finish,  they were neck and neck, but Louie had that little bit extra and crossed the line in first place, with Jack following.  However, it was good racing and the team came home in 6th place .

A lot of clubs, full or promising youngsters,  participate in these races, so it is nice when our juniors are amongst the winners.  It is nice to see Jack Villiers continuing his good form to see him winning the Under Fifteen boys race, but what was amazing was to see Lucille Pickles not only win the Under Eleven girls race, but to set a new course record in the process.

In this event, individuals were running for their schools rather than their clubs, but it was nice to see Barlick juniors out there showing off their fell running prowess.

First home in the Y7 race was Jacob Reeday and no victory was ever more deserved.  He has had a cracking season and has produced some great performances and he did so again in this race, not only winning the race, but doing so with over a margin of one minute over the chasing pack.  And that is not to belittle that chasing pack - it contained some very good junior runners.

Ford Park Run - 8 September 2018

Written by

For those who are wondering, this is a new Park Run in Ulverston in South Lakeland.  The course is full of twists and turns and the terrain is a mixture of grass, mud, woodland and tarmac.  In addition, it was raining heavily during the race.  However, in Barlick Fell Runners, we have a tough set of up and coming youngsters.  Not deterred by the weather or the terrain, young Lucille Pickles went out and put in another one of those sterling performances we have come to expect of her.  She not only finished as the first female runner, but she also broke the course record for a JW10 runner.

Burnsall Junior Races - 25 August 2018

Two juniors went to the Skipton Park Run this morning and both got PBs.  Those same two runners then ran in these race in the afternoon.  Jack Villers, a 14 year old came 2nd in the U17 race and Lucille, a ten year old, came 1st in the U12 race.   Brilliant running from both these juniors.

U12
4 Lucille Pickles 7:13 (1st girl)

U17
2 Jack Villiers 7:49

Another good turn out from the juniors on this very hot day.   Jack Villiers ran a great race to finish 3rd in the U17 race.  In the U14 Race Ciara Duffy had a good run to finish 8th girl.  The U12 race was won by Jacob Reeday - what a season he has had.  He  must surely go on to take home the boy's U12 title now, a real star of the future.   Lucille Pickles carried on her fine form to finish 11th overall & 2nd girl . Harvey Treitl, Garth Duffy, Jody Whitfield, Lily-Grace Clayton, & Chloe Boothman all ran very well in the hot conditions.   It is good to see so many Barlick Vests in the field at the moment, a force to be reckoned with in the future perhaps.
