As there was no local fell running today, Robert Cranham went over to Leeds for what should have been a 9 mile race. Robert was amongst the leading group who all went the wrong way due to a sign pointing in the wrong direction and this led to them all running an extra 2 miles. He finished first out of that leading group, but 12 overall. A bit disappointing, but that is the way that it goes.
12 Robert Cranham 1:19:25
There is life in the old dog yet. Nick Treitl took part in the BOFRA championship this year and he only entered the minimum number of races. Fortunately, he was first M40 in each of those races and as a result, he was became the 2025 M40 BOFRA champion and was presented with his award at the BOFRA Presentation Dinner held at the Rolls Royce Club.

The knew what thy were doing when they built a windmill on the front at Lytham. Sadly, the mill no longer works and it is now just a well know landmark. It also lends its name to some of the races organised by Fylde Coast Runners.
Ben Whitehead and Robert Cranham went over to take part in this race along the front at Lytham. Ben was fancying having a go at getting PB, but it was not to be as the conditions were not good. It was too windy, so a PB went out of the window.
6 Ben Whitehead 36:14 (1st M40)
34 Robert Cranham 39:25
This is not a long race, but it has a very challenging climb up to the Jubilee Tower. Robert Cranham set off up the climb at a steady pace and was in 5th place by the time he got to the Tower. However, one of the runners in front had put so much effort into the climb that he was completely bushed when he got there and he retired from the race. On the return, because of his steady approach to the climb, Robert had a reserve of energy and he stated picking up places, eventually moving into what he thought was 2nd place. He had to sprint hard at the finish to keep young Robert Palmer at bay, finishing 2 seconds in front of him. He was quite pleased with that position and was shocked when the marshal congratulated him on finishing first. One runner, who was leading at the summit went off route and eventually retired from the race. Many runners overlook the fact that navigating is very much a part of fell running and the night before, Robert had spent time studying the race map and a video of the race to make sure that he knew the route and this paid off in the race.
Whereas Robert has won a few minor races, this is his first win in a "proper fell race" and is the culmination of focused training and race preparation and it is nice to see the club name at the top of the results page.
1 Robert Cranham 33:06
The main aims of the club are to increase the participation of running in Barnoldswick and to keep organised running as accessible as possible.
