Membership fees

Despite the name, the club participates in all disciplines of running, fell, cross country and road and welcomes applications from runners of all abilities to join us. If you are not sure if the club is for you, why not come to one of our training sessions or one of our regular pub runs. You will be under no obligation to join, but you will get a feel for the club and a better idea if the club is for you. You can merely turn up to a training session unannounced, but it would be better if you contacted our club secretary first (details on the contacts page) and let him know that you will be coming and he will make sure that whoever is leading the group will look out for you. If you are an absolute beginner to running, you too are most welcome to join us in one of our sessions, but please contact our secretary first and he will make sure that you will have a programme with which you are comfortable. Emma Bailey is doubtless smiling as she looks at these results, as she put in an excellent time for this half marathon and finished first in category. Richard entered the full marathon which is completed in just over four hours.

The Fellsman is a high level traverse covering more than 60 miles over very hard rugged moorland. The event climbs over 11,000 feet in its path from Ingleton to Threshfield in the Yorkshire Dales.   The route does not follow well defined paths so entrants navigational  skills are tested as well as their physical fitness.

Gary Bradley finished in 107th position in a time of 17 hrs 41 mins. This is one hour off a PB for Gary, but he reported, as the Three Peaks runners already know, it was a bit of a brutal morning, but it improved as the day went on into a fantastic evening and night.

There were 279 finishers and 91 entrants retired or withdrew from the race.

Barlick vests were on display in London at the weekend as both Ian Livesey & John Boothman had a crack at this race.  Ian, competing in his second marathon in a week completed the course in 2:58:04.  John finished in 3:23:06, just outside his PB achieved in the Edinburgh Marathon

62 John BOOTHMAN 25:10
106 Jenna BOOTHMAN 29:38

14 Michael ALEXANDER 21:45 New PB
75 Helen STEAD 27:54
109 Graham WADSWORTH 33:49
126 Patricia WADSWORTH 38:42

Nick Treitl led the Barlickers home in a time of 3:13:43, closely followed by Julian Hood.   Lorraine Slater again demonstrated that she is very much at home on the fells, completing the course in just over four and a quarter hours.  Sadly, both Bob Jackson & James Stead failed to make the cut off.

Well done to all the Barlick members who took part in these relays and especially to those for whom this was their first race.  Gallery of 25 pictures above.

Richard Treitl ran this race and commented on it as follows:

Ras y Moelwyn (the Moelwyn Race) is an arduous fell run from Blaenau Ffestiniog over the three peaks of Moelwyn Mawr, Moelwyn Bach and Moel yr Hydd. This is a category AM, 10miles, 2799ft, and this year was a counter for the British Fell Running Championships. Because of this, the start was moved to the town centre which created a great atmosphere on a warm, sunny but breezy afternoon.

Needless to say I was near the back of the field for most of the race but managed to finish 350th out of 362 in a time of 2:21:52.  Finley Wild from Lochaber (who I think has won Ben Nevis for the last 5 years on the trot) won in 1:13:09.

Allowing for the slightly longer course due to the town centre start, I estimated I was about a minute faster than last year.

The Podium 5K is an excellent race if you are chasing a 5K PB.  A flat course with no sharp turns and quick runners makes for an exciting night.  Andrew Chew carried on his march up the ranks with another PB and Lee Edwards had another cracking run.

There were impressive performances from the four Barlickers at the Manchester Marathon, with three finishing in the top thirty and all with personal bests over the 26.2 mile race.  First home was Chris Singleton who finished in 17th place with a time of 2 hrs 33 mins.  Next, in 19th place was Gary Shaw with a time of 2 hrs 34 mins.  Ian Livesey also had a great run to finish 29th with a time of 2 hrs 37 mins.  Tim Piggot ran this race as part of his preparation for the Three Peaks and Old Counties Tops races and his time was 3 hrs 25 mins.  Once more, good performances from Barlick on the roads.

Two years ago, we joined the Mid Lancs Cross Country League and as with all newcomers, had to start in Division Four, the lowest division.  Last year, we were Division Four Champions and got promoted to Division Three.   At the end of this season, we again finished as Division Champions and thus secured promotion to Division Two.

This year, we also had a vet's team and again they started in Division Three - the lowest Division.  They finished as runners up in this Division behind Thornton-Cleveleys, which was good enough to secure promotion to Division Two.

Our ladies narrowly missed out on promotion by a couple of points and in the early part of the season before injury struck, Sarah Tipler put in some stunning performances to win a bronze medal for the best individual results from all divisions.  She achieved this by only completing four races and we can only wonder what she might have done had she been fit enough to compete in them all.

The above picture shows only a few of the Barlick members who participated in this series, but Cross Country is very much a team sport and these excellent results were only achieved by everyone who turned out to represent the club.

In the gallery are also other pictures of the night.  Further pictures may be added later.

Andrew Chew is definitely coming along as a runner in all disciplines and he showed this today by leading the Barlickers home in this club championship race and finishing with a top ten place. Newcomer Andrew Collins also had a great run to finish 3rd Barlicker with a top twenty finish. Lorraine Slater is a formidable opponent on the fells and showed this today by finishing 4th lady in the race and first lady for the club.  The finishing times and places for all the Barlickers were:

7 Andrew Chew 51:30
14 Andrew Driver 52:45
16 Andrew Collins 53:11
33 Lee Edwards 55:00

The Barlick men's 12 stage team travelled to Sutton in Coldfield to take on the UK's best in the National 12 man relay.  Apart from Luke Maude coming in for Julian Hood, it was the same team that managed to qualify from the northern 12 stage.

Chris Singleton ran the fastest long leg of the day with the top runners on the first leg bringing the team back in 43rd place. Jimmy Craig backed this up with the fastest short leg of the day bringing the team up 6 places to 37th. Nick Treitl pulled another place back with another great run on leg 3. Lucas Payne did a great job on leg 4 before Gary Shaw got the team back up to 37th taking back 4 places. Leg 6 and it was the turn of Shaun Chew and he ran a solid leg. Ian Livesey consolidated the position on 7 as did Russell Parrington on leg 8. At this time Rossendale were about 3 and half minutes up and Blackburn 90 secs. Chris Smale ran a cracking leg overtaking Blackburn in the home straight. Stephen Chew took the baton on leg 11 and pulled back 4 places before Luke Maude overtook Rossendale on the last leg with the second quickest short leg of the day.

A very creditable 32nd of 60 teams who compeletd - a fantastic achievement for a club our size. Next stop Calderdale relay to see if the men can improve on last years 3rd place.
