Despite the name, the club participates in all disciplines of running, fell, cross country and road and welcomes applications from runners of all abilities to join us. You will be under no obligation to join, but you will get a feel for the club and a better idea if the club is for you. If you are an absolute beginner to running, you too are most welcome to join us in one of our sessions, but please contact our secretary first and he will make sure that you will have a programme with which you are comfortable. What a night for the three Barlickers who turned out for this race as they all ended up as first in their respective categories.  Mark Horrocks in particular ran a blinder finishing in 11th place overall and first M60 by a country mile.  He also saved Robert Cranham from going wrong when he went heading off in the wrong direction.

There must be something in the Horrocks genes as Lucy Horrocks also had a great race to finish 3rd woman and 1st FSEN.

10 Robert Cranham 27:42 (1st M45)
11 Mark Horrocks 27:44 (1st M60)
20 Lucy Horrocks 28:56 (3rd Woman, 1st FSEN)

Both our teams finished in 5th place which was not bad considering that we had some runners out and others not fully fit.  It was good to see Sarah Bell back out in a Barlick vest and teamed up with Lucy Horrocks.  It was also good to see Jack Villiers representing the club in a team event.

The conditions for this race were perfect with it being a warm dry night with a bit of a breeze on the tops.  Those conditions suited Laura Craig who had a cracking run to take the honours in the ladies race.  She came down off the tops in the lead and although she was being chased by 2nd place Victoria Mousley, she looked strong and capable of holding off any challenge on the long run round the res.  It was a good evening for our girls with both Jacqueline Collins and Nicola Muller coming first in their respective categories.  Lydia Hirst is adapting well to fell running in her first year in the sport and both her and Lisa Gee have great promise for the future.

In the men's race, Dave Mirfield is continuing to struggle and again showed that he is not quite in peak condition at the moment.  Having said that, 12th position for a runner not fully fit is pretty good.

The Barlickers finished as follows:

Overall
12 David Mirfield 34:40 (3rd M40)
21 Andy Berry 36:31 (3rd M45)
49 Stan Dreiling 39:58
60 Shane Muller 40:43

Ladies Race
1 Laura Craig 40:29 (1st F35)
7 Jacqueline Collins 43:18 (1st F45)
17 Lisa Gee 47:56
26 Emma Pease 49:30
33 Nicola Muller 51:07 (1st M50)
64 Lydia Hirst 57:33

Mark Horrocks was a formidable fell runner in his day and in this race, he showed a glimpse of that prowess that made him such a good runner.  He not only enjoyed a top ten finish and first V60, but he was not all that far behind runners half of his age.  Quite some performance from Mark.

The Barlickers finished as follows:

9 Mark Horrocks 2;45:23
14 John Mason 2:58:22
25 David Pease 3:04:13
26 Andrew Smith 3:10:04

It was a great day out at this marathon which was organised superbly.  The weather was good, but if anything a little on the warm side although there was quite a bit of shade on the route coupled witha gentle breeze and a few locals with sprinklers helped cool passing runners.   The course is undulating with a 2 mile climb out of Otley, but is nothing too serious.  The crowds and support on the route were incredible.

Three Barlickers took part, but none had their club designation in the results.  Raymond Banks had a super run finishing 3rd V70.

993 John Boothman 3:53:35
2662 Raymond Banks 4:39:18 (3rd V70)
3434 Anthony Brown 4:54:28

60 Dave Halliday 24:53
141 Richard Starkie 29:14

245 Richard Shilton 29:24
287 Stephen Jackson 30:14

A lovely sunny evening and dry underfoot made this ideal conditions for this race.  Adam Wale of Clayton is on form at the moment and once more he led all the way out and all the way back.  He was chased by Matthew Cardus of Settle, but in the end, Adam ran out a comfortable winner.

It was good to see the Smedley brothers turn out in their first race for Barlick, giving back three finishers in the top ten and the team prize, with Nathan leading the Barlickers home.  Jack Villiers once more had a good run to secure a top twenty finish.

The ladies races was won by Molly Browne of Wharfedale with Laura Craig leading home the Barlick ladies.

6 Nathan Smedley 33:02 (1st MSEN)
