Membership fees

Despite the name, the club participates in all disciplines of running, fell, cross country and road and welcomes applications from runners of all abilities to join us. If you are not sure if the club is for you, why not come to one of our training sessions or one of our regular pub runs. You will be under no obligation to join, but you will get a feel for the club and a better idea if the club is for you. You can merely turn up to a training session unannounced, but it would be better if you contacted our club secretary first (details on the contacts page) and let him know that you will be coming and he will make sure that whoever is leading the group will look out for you. If you are an absolute beginner to running, you too are most welcome to join us in one of our sessions, but please contact our secretary first and he will make sure that you will have a programme with which you are comfortable. Three hardy BFR members made the trip to Seathwaite for this race -  the first of the Lakeland  Classics with its distance of 18 miles & 6000 ft ascent.

This year, it was a proper challenge with the clag down all day & with no GPS allowed, good map & compass skills were essential to get round without adding any extra miles.

A record number of runners took part in this race this year.  Conditions were good for the race and thought went to whether the course records would be broker,  However, as the day showed, those course records are fast and they stand for another year.

First home in the race was Jonathan Cleaver of Barlick Fell Runners, with Stephen Hall of Ribble Valley and John Horrocks of Blackburn hot on his tail.

The ladies race was won by the talented Annabel Mason closely followed by Jacqueline Collins, who was also first W35  and then Claire Vincent of Clayton

A good run out for a couple of our girls in this race.  Lorraine Slater put in a top performance to hold off Heather Dalgleish of Rossendale  to win the ladies race and Lucy Brown came home in 6th place.

22 Lorraine Slater 41:06 ( 1st lady, 1st W40)
45 Lucy Brown 45:22 (6th lady)

Those of you with a good memory may recall that Emma Bailey picked this, her first marathon, as a charity raising event.   She made her cause a contribution towards a new, state of the art, scanner at the Yorkshire Cancer Centre.  The good news is that thanks to Emma and others like her, the target of £2.4 million has now been reached. This will push the treatment at the cancer centre to an even higher level for the benefit of future cancer patients.

Thanks to everyone from the club who contributed.

Letter to Emma

A good turnout for this Bank Holiday race set in the lovely dales village of Austwick with its traditional street market.  Jonathan Cleaver found himself up against two in form runners, John Stretton & Lee Athersmith, but nevertheless, put in a top performance to take third place.  Stephen Shorrocks had a great run to finish 6th and take the 1st V40 prize.

In the ladies race, Jacqueline Collins led the Barlick ladies home. but this was not her type of race and she struggled to emulate the form which she showed in the Burnley Lions race.  (Or was it because she put so much into that race, only two days earlier?).

There were a a few podium prizes for our junior runners and these are detailed on our Junior website.

3 Jon Cleaver 52:17
6 Stephen Shorrock 53:49 (1st M40)

It is not often that a club from round here goes up to the Lakes and takes the team prize, but as a result of three cracking performances, that is what Barlick did today.  This is a typical out and back race over 15.5 miles with 5,300 ft of climbing in it.  Sadly the clag was down for most of the day with only brief glimpses of the usual great Lakeland views.

Julian finished 8th, Andy Collins was 10th and with Tim bringing up the rear in 15th place, it was enough to secure the team prize.  Good fell running in what is serious fell running country.

8 Julian Hood 2:31:19 (2nd M40)
10 Andy Collins 2:34:58
15 Tim Chadwick 2:37:01
109 Karl Robb 3:57:07

47 David Mirfield 2:51:33
77 David Poole 2:54:49
1482 Cloey Mason 3:46:47

A good run out by Molly Ralphson who finished 5th lady and 3rd W40

71 Molly Ralphson 1:10:24

A great performance by Jacqueline Collins saw her comfortably take the honours in the women's race, with Heather Driver finishing 8th.  In the men's race, Jonathan Cleaver led the Barlickers home, finishing in 5th place.  Junior runner, Alex Mason is getting used to mixing it in the senior races and he enjoyed a top ten finish (finishing 8th overall) and 1st under 18 by a comfortable margin.  A good turnout of Barlickers with many finishing amongst the top category positions.
