Membership fees

Despite the name, the club participates in all disciplines of running, fell, cross country and road and welcomes applications from runners of all abilities to join us. If you are not sure if the club is for you, why not come to one of our training sessions or one of our regular pub runs. You will be under no obligation to join, but you will get a feel for the club and a better idea if the club is for you. You can merely turn up to a training session unannounced, but it would be better if you contacted our club secretary first (details on the contacts page) and let him know that you will be coming and he will make sure that whoever is leading the group will look out for you. If you are an absolute beginner to running, you too are most welcome to join us in one of our sessions, but please contact our secretary first and he will make sure that you will have a programme with which you are comfortable. Membership fees for the club are as follows:

Paula Radcliffe as been to the very top in her running career, but she has now entered a different world where, like many others, she is trying to fit in some running in between looking after two children and other domestic pressures.   In her article in the Daily Telegraph, she makes her suggestions as to how to enjoy mid life running.

Two Barlickers went up for this 23 mile / 7.513 ft race.  

The wind and rain was pretty bad up the first climb, although it did improve in the second half of the race, with some great views greeting the runners.  Despite the weather, Gary had a decent run and knocked 13 minutes off his time for last year.  The full results are yet to be published, but provisionally, the times are:

Des Walkden thought that he would try something different, so he travelled down to the beautiful location of Betws y Coed in North Wales  On the race day it was typical pouring down Welsh weather.  He entered the 50K multi event which was as follows:

Stage 1 8km trail run 1028 ft climb
Stage 2 11km road bike 1082 ft climb
Stage 3 1km kayak- shortened to 0.5km due to bad weather
Stage 4 9km trail run 1154 ft climb
Stage 5 14km road bike 695 ft climb
Stage 6 7km trail run 879 ft climb

He managed to pace himself OK and finished 13th overall in a time of 3:48:34.

This is a 13.3 mile race with 4,600 ft of ascent with magnificent views over Ullswater.  It is a favourite of Dave Halliday and he has now taken part in iit for three years in succession.  He was particularly pleased with his performance this year, as it is the first time that he has completed the course under three hours.

A last minute race for Emma Bailey and a warm one at that, but no complaints from Emma, who sailed round to take first place in the ladies race.

A good run by Tom Corrigan saw him once more see off the opposition and win this race.  Andy Collins is showing a rapid return to form and a great run saw him sneak home in front of Sam Watson of Wharfedale to finish as runner up to Tom.  Another great run was by U18 Alex Mason who finished in seventh position and together with Jon Cleaver, who finished 5th, this was enough for Barlick to take the team prize.

In the ladies' race,  Caroline Lambert of Ribble Valley was the winner, who finished ahead of Annie Roberts of Todmorden and Victoria Mouseley of Blackburn.

Again, Barlick took the team prize with Jacqueline Collins having another good run and leading team mates Victoria Peel and Lucy Brown home. 


Stephen Shorrock & Katie Towers took part in these races and both did rather well.  The Ultra was 52.8 miles and Stephen ran it in 10:50:33 and was 4th individual.  Katie ran the Marathon and completed it in 6:04:20 and was 5th individual lady.  

Emma Bailey did not enjoy this race.  In retrospect, she went off too fast, although she said that it did not feel like it at the time.  It was just her time splits that showed differently.   It was very hot, there were head winds in places, lots of twists and turns as you went around the back streets and marina of Hull and to cap it all, there were even cobbles in places.  So, not a good day for Emma.  But what is done is done and she is now looking forward to her next race.

Andy Collins has been making regular appearance in races recently and this is now paying off as he returns to the form which made him such a successful fell runner.  As the picture shows, he was looking very focused as he led the Barlickers home with his top ten finish.

Lorraine Slater continued her good run of form, once more finishing first LV40.

Three hardy BFR members made the trip to Seathwaite for this race -  the first of the Lakeland  Classics with its distance of 18 miles & 6000 ft ascent.

This year, it was a proper challenge with the clag down all day & with no GPS allowed, good map & compass skills were essential to get round without adding any extra miles.

A record number of runners took part in this race this year.  Conditions were good for the race and thought went to whether the course records would be broker,  However, as the day showed, those course records are fast and they stand for another year.

First home in the race was Jonathan Cleaver of Barlick Fell Runners, with Stephen Hall of Ribble Valley and John Horrocks of Blackburn hot on his tail.

The ladies race was won by the talented Annabel Mason closely followed by Jacqueline Collins, who was also first W35  and then Claire Vincent of Clayton



A good run out for a couple of our girls in this race.  Lorraine Slater put in a top performance to hold off Heather Dalgleish of Rossendale  to win the ladies race and Lucy Brown came home in 6th place.
