Membership fees

Despite the name, the club participates in all disciplines of running, fell, cross country and road and welcomes applications from runners of all abilities to join us. If you are not sure if the club is for you, why not come to one of our training sessions or one of our regular pub runs. You will be under no obligation to join, but you will get a feel for the club and a better idea if the club is for you. You can merely turn up to a training session unannounced, but it would be better if you contacted our club secretary first (details on the contacts page) and let him know that you will be coming and he will make sure that whoever is leading the group will look out for you. If you are an absolute beginner to running, you too are most welcome to join us in one of our sessions, but please contact our secretary first and he will make sure that you will have a programme with which you are comfortable. John Boothman, Pete Jackson and Glenn Whittaker went over to Chamonix for these races.  Glenn entered the 10K race and earned a podium place by finishing third in his age category.   He was an impressive 278th out of 1841 starters.  Pete and John did the 23K race, which is actually 25K and has some tough climbs on terrain which is very similar to the Lake District.  Pete was 5th in his age category and John was 15th.  However, they have different age splits to what we are used to.  The weather there was hot, the scenery was stunning and it was an amazing experience for all three runners.

10K Race
278 Glenn Whittaker 1:02:18 (3rd in age category)

23K Race
641 John Boothman 4:11:26 (15th in age category)

Dad's army set out from Barlick to take part in this race, with no runner under the age of 60.  They finished as follows:

28 Mark Horrocks 1:07:46 (2nd M60)
62 Andrew Smith 1:15:43
88 John Boothman 1.21:27
91 Pete Jackson 1:22:27
137 Raymons Banks 1:44:10

He has been threatening it for a while, but at last, Sam Horrocks has taken a race win, chased home by team mate Andy Collins. In the ladies race, Izzy Powell took the honours chased home by her team mate, the evergreen Jean Powell.

The numbers were down this year and the race was reminiscent of races in the 1980s when numbers were much smaller and fell running, although competitive in the race, had a friendly atmosphere amongst the runners both before and after the race.

The Barlickers finished as follows:

1 Sam Horrocks 41:48

3 Jacqueline Collins 1:05:14

This race started at a fast pace set by the leading runners.  By the summit, Mark Howard had taken the lead, but was being closely chased by Matt Watson.  These two were followed by Matthew Heppenstall and all three had opened up a large gap over the chasing pack.  On another day, Matt Watson would probably have finished as the race winner, but he was up against a very quick runner who finished the race only just outside of the record.  Mark Howard was only just 3 seconds from setting a new record.

In the ladies race, there was a tussle between Charlotte Jackson and April Thorpe, with Charlottt just leading at the summit, but April looked determined and confident and she managed to run out as race winner in what was a closely fought contest.  Those two were way in front of the chasing pack, who were led home by Paula Cullen.

Of the Barlickers, they dominated this race with Matt Watson leading them home with five finishing in the top ten.  In the ladies race, Paula Cullen led them home, finishing 3rd overall ahead of Jacqueline Collins.  It was lovely to see Karen Lemon take third place on her return to competitive running in addition to getting a prize for first F40.  Barlick won both the Men's and the Women's team prizes.

The Barlickers finished as follows:

Men's Race
2 Matt Watson  38:30 (1st M45)
4 Tom Corrigan 41:12 (1st M40)
