Membership fees

Despite the name, the club participates in all disciplines of running, fell, cross country and road and welcomes applications from runners of all abilities to join us. If you are not sure if the club is for you, why not come to one of our training sessions or one of our regular pub runs. You will be under no obligation to join, but you will get a feel for the club and a better idea if the club is for you. You can merely turn up to a training session unannounced, but it would be better if you contacted our club secretary first (details on the contacts page) and let him know that you will be coming and he will make sure that whoever is leading the group will look out for you. If you are an absolute beginner to running, you too are most welcome to join us in one of our sessions, but please contact our secretary first and he will make sure that you will have a programme with which you are comfortable. The only Barlick runner in the race has been steadily improving and at last has made a top ten finish.

This is a new race and is ideal for this time of the year.  It follows good tracks and paths out of Littleborough and when it gets to the tops by the old Roman Road and Black Edge, despite all of the recent inclement weather, there was no bog trotting, but good firm ground which led to the long descent back down again.

Sam Wadsworth led the Barlickers out.  He set off steadily, aware of the long run up to the summit.  As he approached the old Roman Road, he was in 18th position, but he managed to take the odd place on the pull up to the summit, where he found himself on contention with Marc Sennett of Wharfedale.  From then on, it became a nip and tuck battle between the two and this contest pulled them through the field and they managed to gain a few more places, with Marc eventually edging it over Sam. At the end of the race. they both agreed that they had pulled each other through and joked that they would have made a good relay pair.
