Membership fees

Despite the name, the club participates in all disciplines of running, fell, cross country and road and welcomes applications from runners of all abilities to join us. If you are not sure if the club is for you, why not come to one of our training sessions or one of our regular pub runs. You will be under no obligation to join, but you will get a feel for the club and a better idea if the club is for you. You can merely turn up to a training session unannounced, but it would be better if you contacted our club secretary first (details on the contacts page) and let him know that you will be coming and he will make sure that whoever is leading the group will look out for you. If you are an absolute beginner to running, you too are most welcome to join us in one of our sessions, but please contact our secretary first and he will make sure that you will have a programme with which you are comfortable. The conditions for this race were really tough with it being wet under foot and a strong wind blowing against the runners right up to the Stoop stone.  It was the first of Woodhead's races for Richard Cranham and he wondered why the start was a cavalry charge.  Once he got onto the moors, there was a complete bottleneck with few passing places and he then realised why everyone put so much effort into getting a good start.

It was tough going up to the Stoop stone, but much better (and faster) on the return, although a few deep bogs took a lot of runners by surprise.  There were three Barlickers out in this race and they finished as follows:

26 Robert Cranham 40:50
55 Andrew Smith 44:46 (1st M60)
99 Lucy Brown 53:27

3 Robert Cranham 20:19

30 Molly Ralphson 21:13
35 Raymond Banks 21:48

64 Donna Milligan 29:02

Robert Cranham won the most improved runner of the year at the presentation night and he continues to improve.  Today he won this race and improved his PB over 10K by 50 seconds.

During the race, he took the lead early on and was chased by Paul Hill who was constantly breathing down his neck and pushing him on.  It rapidly became a two horse race with those two way out in front of the chasing pack.  When they got to the last 100 metres, Robert put on a sprint but Paul did not respond, so he ran out the winner by 12 seconds.

1 Robert Cranham 40:40

1 Robert Cranham 20:59
11 Peter Jackson 25:12

12 Molly Ralphson 22:33

181 Raymond Banks 44:42 (1st M70)

67 Emma Law 1:11:09
68 Emma Taylor 1:11:38

Red Rose Cross Country, Sephton Park - 25 November 2023

Written by

Only one junior in this race, but Lexi has shown herself to be up for racing, in addition to taking part in Park Runs.  The competition in this race is tough, as the event attracts top runners from all over the country and good for Lexi in mixing it in the top circles.
