These championships took place in Arco in Italy and Josh Boyle was representing Great Britain in the Junior Men Race. He finished just over half way down the field, which is a considerable achievement, considering that he was one of the youngest runners there and he was racing against lads three years older than himself.
This will have been invaluable experience for this young man to take forward to future international events.
Just for the record, Great Britain came 4th behind Turkey, Italy and France.
Tom Corrigan ran out the comfortable winner of this race, ahead of Gareth Booth of Horwich, with Julian Hood coming home third.
In the ladies race, Sarah Tipler was second lady behind Louise Powell-Smith of Clayton, with Lorraine Slater in third place and first W45.
Barlick also took both male and female team prizes.
There are no junior results out yet, but the brief news is that Lucille Pickles was 1st U8 girl, George Fitzpatrick 1st U8 boy, Jenna Boothman was 2nd U12 girl, Elliot Phillips 2nd U12 boy,

This year, Sam Wadsworth & Kirsty Hall moved up a class as Kirsty was feeling more confident following her recent running performances. This is a two day event and involved them running about 30 miles in the Lake District around the area of Ullswater and Haweswater. This involved around 4,500 ft of climbing on day one and around 3,500 ft of climbing on day two. On Saturday, they were beset by heavy showers and at times the going was tough. Because of the wet, even straightforward running became difficult and on the descent from Angle Tarn going in the direction of the Ian Hodgson race, they took a tumble and they found themselves descending at an every increasing rate. Luckily they managed to stop, but no sooner had they done so, than another competitor swept past, luckily missing them but tumbling into a small ravine, where she suffered a broken arm. Also in the ravine had been another competitor who had suffered head injuries. These were dealt with by the Mountain Rescue and our pair carried on, finishing 9th overall after day one. On day two, the weather was much better and they finished 6th overall, making their final position 7th and 3rd mixed team. Just to get this into perspective, last year, in this class, Nick Charlesworth & Dave Kirkham from Wharfedale, both class runners in their own right, came home in 18th place, so our pair were pleased with their first year in the higher level Carrock Fell class, in this competition..
7 Kirsty Hall & Sam Wadsworth 9:12:41(3rd mixed team).
95 starters - 71 finishers.
There were 18 teams from Barlick, a total of 54 runners, in these relays. And what a show they put on, with the 'A' team of Jimmy Craig, Luke Maude and Tom Corrigan winning the event out right. The Barlick Ladies team of Sarah Tipler, Angela Donlan and Lorraine Slater were first ladies. The Barlick Vets team of Virgil Barton, Carl Pawson and Chris Smale were first vets team and to cap it all, Sarah Tipler had the fastest ladies lap time.
The draft results are below. More detailed results showing individual times will be published over the weekend.
This is the first time we have put a team into this event and it was done on the basis, not of the club entering a team, but a group of members coming together and giving it a go.
The first leg was Andy Berry & Ian Livesey who put the team into 5th position on what was a tight leg. They handed over to Pete Beresford & Rob Hodgkinson, the latter having come into the team at the last minute to replace an injured runner. These two held on to 5th place. The next leg was Glenn Whittaker & Ben Hoyle and they dropped a place, putting the team into 6th. The next leg was Jock Boothman & Mick Keegan who held on to that position. They handed over to Sam Wadsworth & Ian Beresford, who had Pudsey & Bramley & Pudsey Pacers in their sights when they set off. They took these two teams on the climb up onto Ilkley Moor and descending on the other side, they opened up a good gap, which the chasing teams never looked likely to close. The club therefore ran out 4th on the first attempt at this event.
The finishing times were:
1 Wharfedale 5:33:26
2 Keighley & Craven 6:06:27
3 Saltaire 6:11:41
4 Barlick 6:21:36
5 Pudsey & Bramley 6:30:01
6 Pudsey Pacers 6:38:23
7 Horsforth 6:43:30
8 Queensbury 6:49:50

Race Pictures at the summit by James Stead
Over the years, some great names in fell running have done battle in this race, but this year, there was a feeling that a wind of change was taking place. It seems that a new generation of runners are coming through. Junior Great Britain International runner, Josh Boyle led the race up to the summit, where he was showing a good lead. However, it appears that he did not take the best line coming off the top, which allowed the chasing pack to close the gap. It was at this point where another promising young runner, Jamie Parkinson from Pudsey & Bramley, showed everyone a clean pair of heals as he took the lead. He opened this lead to the point where he only had to make the final steep descent safely to ensure victory, which he duly did, finishing over half a minute in front of the chasing pack.. Behind him, a real battle was developing for the next three places and much depended on how everyone handled the final descent. It was a close thing between Jack Wood of Ilkley and Josh Boyle of Barlick and both came over the car park wall together, with Jack just shading it and less than a second separating the pair. Next to finish was the wily old fox and previous race winner, Ted Mason. Ted is one of the best descenders in the sport and coupled with his ability to be able to pick a good line, he was not going to let these young upstarts have it all their own way. He did not manage to catch the first three, but on the final descent, they must have been only too aware that he was there waiting to take advantage of any mistakes that they made. Completing the top five was another young runner and former Junior International, Luke Maude. Apart from the more experienced Ted Mason, the oldest runner is this group was Jack Wood who is aged 27 and the fact that there is so much young talent coming through, says a lot about the future of the sport.
It does not seem that long ago that Kirsty Hall was hobbling about on a pair of crutches following a skiing accident and wondering if she would ever run again. It says much about the medical professionals and Kirsty's steely determination that she has come through this setback seemingly stronger than ever and it was fitting to see her follow up some recent stunning performances to run out the winner of the ladies race. This was in front of yet another promising young runner, the 18 year old Hannah Russell of Helm Hill. This was Hannah's first attempt at this race and on this showing, she demonstrated that she will be a future race winner. Making up the top three in the ladies race was another runner who has been showing recent good form and that is Jean Powell of Wharfedale Harriers.
Further down the field were stalwarts from the past, who still enjoy the challenge of this race, tough though it is. Of these, special mention should be made of Norman Bush. Although he has now reached the grand old age of 75, he still turns up for this race and not only that, but he puts in a good performance, this year finishing in 55th position out a total of 98 finishers.
Mention should also be made of local farmer, Gary Schofield. He has always allowed this race to be run over his land, although he himself is not a runner. Until this year that is, when he decided to enter the race both as a personal challenge and to raise money for Manorlands Hospice, a local charity. He was a bit nervous about doing it before he set off, but he needn't have been. He finished in 72nd place and was 5th MV45 out of a total of 9 who took part.
In the team races, both the Barlick and the Ilkley men finished with 19 points each, but Ilkley won it on the basis that their last runner finished in front of the Barlick last runner. The Ilkley ladies also won the team prize, demonstrating the strength in depth of this local club.
The Barlickers finished as follows:
3 Joshua Boyle 34.51
5 Luke Maude 36.06
11 Sam Wadsworth 39.45
17 Andrew Driver 43.52
26 Jonathan Boothman 45.12
31 John Boothman 45.58
60 Rachel Lowther 50.27
75 Craig Child 53.10
79 Paul Elcock 54.13
This is a 6 mile / 1299 ft ascent race.

A warm but overcast day saw 137 runners gather for the race up Weets. Shortly after the start, Danny Collinge had to drop out with an injured knee, which was a pity, as it was very competitive at the front and Danny would have been in contention with those leading runners.
As it turned out, Tom Corrigan had another cracking performance to comfortably run out the winner, ahead of previous race winner Sam Watson of Wharfedale. Third home was Julian Hood of Barlick.
In the ladies race, Sarah Tipler followed up her winning run last week with another top performance to once again take first place. She finished in front of Lynn Clough of Chorley and Ali Keats.
It was good to see some youngsters taking part in this race with Jordan Mcdonald taking the honours as first U18 and finishing 15th overall.
