For most of the first year of the club, we had only one lady member, so our women have been a little behind our men in team events. However, as our female membership has increased, they have grown into a wonderful supportive group and this is now paying off in team events such as this league. Last year, our women gained promotion from the lowly third division and by turning out and working together, this year, they became division two champions. Not only did they win their league, but they won it in style, by winning every race of the season. Following on from that, they were also champions in the V35 League. But it does not stop there. The women are working as a group and for most races, many numbers turned out. Cross country is nothing if it is not a team sport and this turning out in numbers and supporting each other has paid off, resulting in the ladies B team gaining promotion from Division Three to replace our A team there. It has certainly been a season to remember.
It was October 2013, in the first year of the club’s existence, that we joined this league in division four. In what has been a remarkable journey, we gained promotion every subsequent year to the next division, culminating this year in becoming the league champions. Not only did we win the league as a team, but the club also took the honours in the individual competition, with Tom Corrigan comfortably beating James Douglas from Border Harriers to become overall league champion. On reading this, anyone not knowing this league, might think that we had been up against a host of mediocre clubs. On the contrary, we were opposed by many top quality clubs in the Lancashire area (and beyond). The main differerence between us was that our top runners were prepared to turn out for each event and represent their club and that perhaps aptly demonstrates the spirit within the club.

This was Andrew Collins' first time at Skipton and he had an exciting tussle with Lee Athersmith, just beating him to the line by one second and coming first in this run.

Young Jack Villiers has certainly taken to racing, this being his third race in four days. The first three home was a repeat of last week, except that they all recorded faster times. It is good to see a couple of our new female runners out racing - these races are absolutely ideal for getting used to off road running.

Another good day out for the Villiers family with Jack & mum Rachel finishing 20th and 21st respectively. However, this also meant that Jack was first junior, beating fellow U14 Jude Baldard of Halifax to the line and and mum was first W35.

22 Rachel Villiers 19:49 (1stW35)

A good outing for Emma Bailey, who came home 1st lady and a PB despite the wet conditions and head winds in places. The race was well organised as usual and afterwards, along with all the other runners, she enjoyed a brew, a bacon sandwich and an Easter egg. Except unlike most of the the runners, she also came away with £50 prize money.

This race is on a hilly course and it saw Rachel Villiers have a great run to finish 1st lady, not far behind Scott Boardman. The ever improving Paul Elock showed that he is gaining stamina on the hills and the "running machine" John Boothman was not that far behind them all in 29th place.

Following his cracking performance in the Manchester Marathon, Ian has been picked as one of the Masters Athletes who will represent England in the Chester Marathon. What brilliant news for Ian and also for the club.
The Bunny Runs are quite unique. They are only three miles long and the juniors (over 12) run with the seniors. They are fast, which suits the youngsters, and it is not uncommon to see good fell runners struggling against such youthful competition. Although he is now a V50, Chris Smale still has a fair turn of speed and he led the Barlickers home. However, the short fast course course suited junior runner Jack Villiers who came home second for the club.

Three Barlickers turned out for this event and it was the first triathlon for Heather Driver. She took to this discipline like a natural ,completing the swim section like a dolphin and finishing 198 overall out of 684 finishers.

A few Barlick speed merchants turned out for the latest race in this series and they were led home by James Tingle. But look who was second for Barlick. . None other than young Jack Villiers who was out mixing it with the seniors and beating his mum into the bargain.

Richard Treitl was our sole representative in this race and he completed it in a time of 2:42:38, finishing 85th out of 90 finishers. He struggled in the afternoon heat, which was much hotter than predicted, which probably explains why his time was quite a bit slower than the last time he took part in this race, two years ago.

The ladies made the trip to Sutton in Coldfield today and did the club proud yet again. Both men and ladies qualified with their excellent showing at Blackpool two weeks ago. The men had 6 of the original team missing so it was left to the ladies to fly the flag.
Annabel Ralph got the team off to a great start finishing 29th on the first leg and the returning Sarah Tipler ran the fastest Barlick short leg taking back 3 places. Rachel Villiers was only 8 seconds off Sarah's time and pulled another place back and the team were 25th. Jen Hird then took over on the long leg and managed to only lose two places. Leanne Dinsdale pulled one back on leg 5 and Emma Bailey anchored the team home in 26th place. A quality result yet again from the ladies.

The main aims of the club are to increase the participation of running in Barnoldswick and to keep organised running as accessible as possible.
