Whilst all eyes were on London, much nearer home, another marathon was taking place. Whilst the London runners were having to put up with the heat, on the two lap course at Blackpool, it was a case of fighting the head wind each time on the way out and putting up with very wet conditions for the first 9 miles. Cloey Mason took part and was placed 8th out of 179 women and was 2nd V40. It was her first sub 4 hour time.
167 Cloey Mason 3:53:19 (2nd V40).

On the face of it, Ian Livesey had a cracking race to finish 1st MV35 and 13th overall and most people would be happy with that. But Ian being Ian thinks that he can do better. At 14 miles, he was dead, but the stamina was there and he came back for a great finish.
This was the first marathon for Emma Bailey and as always with Emma, she trained seriously for it. Not only that, but as her first marathon, she picked this race as her charity money raising race for this year. For her first marathon, she had a target time of less than 3 hrs 20 mins and she beat that, proving that she had not just turned up to make up the numbers. It was an eventful day for Emma. She was on the way to the race when her car broke down, leaving her to complete the journey to the start by taxi. Not the best possible preparation for the day Then, after ten miles, she developed a blister. After about eighteen miles, she then developed a stitch, which knocked the rhythm out of her. At that point, in her own mind, it was a case of merely getting to the finish line. As her stitch started to ease, the 3 hrs 15 mins pacer went past her. She tried to keep up, but she had lost her rhythm and her head was in the wrong place. She tried to keep up, but he sadly pulled away. However, Emma is a fighter and she kept him in her sights and finished with what can only be described as a brilliant time for her first marathon.
This was a great effort by Emma and you can support her money raising effort by donating on line at https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/emma-bailey55 No amount is too small and every little will help this great cause.
